Our Preschool Philosophy and Teachers
Our Philosophy at First Presbyterian Preschool is multi-faceted. First and foremost it is to provide each and every child with loving Christian care and guidance. We are also striving to give each child the tools to develop strong fundamentals in letter recognition, pre-writing and writing skills, sight word recognition and basic math skills. Our hope is to encourage a love for Godly values and a love for learning that will open the door for their future education experience.
Our teachers are all college educated with an Associates, Bachelors or Masters Degree in the area of Early Education. They are all CPR and First Aid certified and are expected to continue their growth through continuing education and workshops. We are all like-minded in the fact that our profession is of utmost importance to us and is taken very seriously. We consider it a privilege to teach your child.
Preschool Curriculum
Four Year Olds
The four year old year is a very important year. We are preparing your child to make that successful transition into kindergarten. Our curriculum focuses on sight word recognition, writing and math skills. We use "Wilson Fundamental" materials as well as a math skill book for each child. The classroom set up encourages “center time”. The teachers work in small groups during reading time to insure each child has a good foundation. We stay in contact with the local Elementary Schools to make sure we are staying progressive when it comes to Kindergarten expectations.
Three Year Olds
The three year old year is a time of many changes. The children become more social and independent. They are following directions and learning how to make friends and be a good friend. In the three year old classes we are preparing them for the next step that they will take in preschool. We are focusing in on writing our names and letter recognition as well as color and shape recognition. We are fine-tuning our small-motor skills and exploring nature and the world around us and learning how our community works. The teacher will track each child’s progress and work individually with each child.
Two and a Half Year Olds
For most two year olds this will be their first experience in a school setting. We treat these precious little ones with a lot of love and understanding. We are perfecting potty skills and sharing with others. We are learning our colors and shapes and ABC’s. We spend time painting and gluing and exploring art through different mediums. We will learn about the world around us.
All ages groups will have Spanish class and Chapel each week.
